This BBC project has now had the Arab-British Certificates (a-cert) added with six pilot Chambers going live on 1st September 2002. If the project proves successful North Kent Chamber will seriously look at both the e-cert and a-cert systems and encourage users of the Export Documentation Service to use these part computerised systems. As part of our accreditation process with the BCC we are committed to progress and finally use these systems.
The BCC advice that the foundations have now been laid for the introduction of a parallel service to e-cert later this year and a further expansion of Chamber document services.
Demand for the service nationally has so far been poor. However the North Kent Chamber does not wish to lose any of its customers for this reason alone. We would however like some feedback from those using the current service as to whether or not they would prefer to deal with the issue of Certificates of Origin by electronic means.

Letter of Credit Presentation Services
We are embarking on a publicity campaign to encourage more users of this excellent service. A flier is sent out with the Certificate of Origin encouraging companies to use the service. The service would relieve companies from having to complete the Letters of Credit, which can take up to 3½ hours to deal with. This time could be spent trying to secure further orders.
Interreg IIIA Project
Interreg IIIA is a cross-border partnership between Valencienne Chamber and Medway Council. The main principle of the Interreg programme is that national borders should no longer be an obstacle in the balanced economic development and integration of the European area.
The Franco-British Interreg Programme aims to develop a network of partners working together, promoting the development of urban, rural and coastal areas, and the development of small and medium sized firms ( including the tourist industry ) and local employment initiatives.
Trade Missions
Trade Missions offer UK companies the opportunity to meet potential partners or clients in a host country's marketplace. They are organised by Trade Promoters with the help of DTI export services. UK Companies through these missions have the opportunity to see host country company profiles, an ability to access key market indicators and market opportunities in order to decide whether they would be willing to enter into joint ventures, investing time and effort in their business development.
